Building A Strong Church Leadership (Part 1)

TEXT: Psalm 133:1-3; Amos 3:3; 1 Cor. 12:12-27; Prov. 9:9-10; Eccl. 9:10; Prov. 6:6-9.

INTRODUCTION

It is very difficult to build a strong church leadership if there is division, slander, leadership strife, jealousy, envy, evil speaking about leadership etc. Rom. 16:17-20

I - THE POWER OF UNITY

Psalm 133:1-3 explains the agreement in the unity of:

  • The head speak of the visioner
  • The beard speaks of the pastor or departmental heads
  • The garment speaks of the congregation

It comes from up till dawn and this could also represent God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit in active work of unity in the program of creation, salvation and the Church. Unity is powerful whether to accomplish good works or evil. Here there was unity to accomplish evil.

A) Evil Unity

  1. Building the Tower: Gen. 11:1-8 / Aaron golden calf: Exodus 32:1
  2. Causing division: 1 Cor. 16:17
  3. Rebelling against leadership: Num. 12:1-16; Num. 13:32-33
  4. Evil Association: 1 Cor. 15:33; Acts 20:28-32
  5. Agreement too destroy a Servant of God: Acts 23:12-24

B) Good Unity

  1. Supporting the work of God in unity: Luke 8:1-3
  2. Fighting together for success in deliverance of God's people: Esther 4:16-17
  3. Working together for better things: Eccl. 4:9-12
  4. He sent them two by two: Luke 10:1
  5. Working in harmony with the visioner: Rom. 16:1-15

II - UNDERSTAND SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY

No Church has ever existed without a guide or leader. Col. 1:16-19 Jesus is the head of the church yet he has chosen human leadership for people to be guided. Heb 13:7,17; 1 Thess. 5:12-13; Eph. 6:1-3; Eph. 4:11-15.

If Christ does not want any person to lead his church He would not have talked of Leaders giving an account on the last day according to Heb. 13:17. The Kingdom is individual race 1 Cor. 9:24-27; Rom. 14:12
